CPA Presents: KAPA Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)

About this event

Covering Centennial (KAPA) from an Aircraft Fire Rescue standpoint.

South Metro Fire and Rescue will present on what happens when things go wrong in the cockpit and how they respond to aircraft incidents and accidents. A very insightful view from the people who are first on the scene and their tips on avoiding disaster before and after.

Lt. Pierce Jacoway has been with South Metro Fire Rescue since 2012. Lt. Jacoway has led the South Metro ARFF team since 2020 and has responded to numerous aviation accidents both on and off Centennial Airport’s property. Most notably, he responded to a mid-air collision north of Centennial Airport (2021) and a Lancair into powerlines South of Centennial (2021). In his tenure as the ARFF Team coordinator he has greatly increased the equipment, apparatus, training, and capabilities of the team. In 2024, the addition of a live fire fuselage was put in service at the ARFF Training Facility which is located on Centennial Airport grounds. Improvements at the 5+ acre facility give real life training opportunities for all ARFF members who train monthly on aircraft rescue fire fighting
