CPA Presents - Mr. Don Johnson, Lead Docent for the National Museum of WWII Aviation, CO Springs
The speaker for this session will be Mr. Don Johnson, Lead Docent for the National Museum of WWII Aviation, Colorado Springs, CO.

Mr. Johnson is a former US Air Force pilot as well as a former airline pilot and will be speaking on the National Museum of WWII. He plans on presenting a brief history of the museum, its current state and future plans, and the upcoming airshow as well as talking a little more in-depth about some of their aircraft.

The National Museum of World War Two Aviation is one of 13 nationally designated museums in the country. We are a living museum which means virtually every aircraft in our 28 aircraft collection is airworthy. In addition to the aircraft we have over 4,000 artifacts and documents in our collection. We host several fly days during the flying season which typically feature an historical presentation followed by a walk-around, start-up and taxi out, and several low passes by the aircraft (our campus is adjacent to RWY 17R/35L at KCOS). Our collection includes several very rare, fully restored historic aircraft including the only remaining Brewster-built Corsair, the only remaining Waco JYM (which was flown by none-other than Charles Lindberg), and the only flying P-38 with kills to its credit.

The museum opened it's 40,000 sq ft Aeronautical Pavillion within the last 2 years and is currently fund-raising to construct the second half of the pavilion which will then total 80,000 sq ft.

We are currently making intense preparations for our air show which is planned for this September. We are working overtime to get all our aircraft through their annual inspections so they will be ready to perform.
